Update: Anthonys Release Statement
update: The Anthonys have just released a statement denying the defense's opening statement. The timing suggests that the calling of critical witnesses is close.
Is Casey Anthony about to take the stand?
6 weeks before the trial, the Anthonys learned, after 3 years, that Casey would claim that Caylee died on June 16th, 2008, in a drowning accident in their home. It is unclear if they learned that the defense planned to blame George for dumping the child's body and for causing Casey's "insane" behavior (celebrating after the death) at this time, or closer to the opening statement. Added to this claim was that the meter reader, Roy Kronk, would also be implicated by Casey (via her attorney) in moving the body.
Yesterday, and then today, the Anthonys released a statement through their attorney that says that they recognize that Casey is guilty, but will fight the state's death penalty. The statement itself shows sensitivity via repetition.
From last night:
Gary Tuchman: "Do George and Cindy Anthony hope Casey is found not guilty?"
Mark Lippman: "No. They want to see the truth. They want to see justice. They do not think she's innocent."
Then, about 10AM this morning, Mark Lippman released a statement, of which the timing appears to be vital:
"The Anthony family maintains that they simply want justice in this case...they do not under any circumstance support any theory that the defense has put forward regarding George Anthony's actions. They do not under any circumstance wish to see that the State achieves the ultimate sanction...which is the death penalty...they want the truth about what has happened to their Grand Daughter" (sic, In Session)
Here is the same statement with analysis.
The Anthony family maintains that they simply want justice in this case...t
Additional words give us additional information.
The sensitivity associated with "simply" may suggest that there are other things the Anthony family wants out of this case besides justice. Simple justice would be what the state seeks, conviction and penalty.
If "simply" is sensitive, what else might they want out of this case?
We have read that Cindy Anthony is taking notes and has a 2 million dollar book deal.
It may be that the sensitivity associated with "simply" could mean they want something else besides justice; as justice would mean that when Casey took away Caylee's right to life, Casey forfeited her own right to life. Is it that the Anthonys want something other than justice, such as avoiding the justice the state seeks?
they do not under any circumstance support any theory that the defense has put forward regarding George Anthony's actions.
Note: "George Anthony's actions." What actions are they referring to? It does not state "alleged actions" but "actions."
They do not under any circumstance wish to see that the State achieves the ultimate sanction...which is the death penalty...
Note that "under any circumstance" is sensitive, as it is repeated. What is the sensitivity attached to "any circumstance"? Is this sensitivity pointed towards the penalty phase?
they want the truth about what has happened to their Grand Daughter
The truth has come forth, and has been there since the beginning. They "want" the truth. Last month, Jose Baez told them:
The nanny did not exist
Casey did not have a job
Casey did not call the police
The child was never kidnapped
All their TV appearances and organization forming while a nation searched, was all a lie as Caylee was dead since June 16h.
What truth are they anticipating with "want" or desire?
The timing of this statement may be that the defense is about ready to call critical witnesses to their claim, including the possible calling of Casey Anthony, as well as George, Cindy, Lee, River Cruz, and Roy Kronk.
