Big Brown not so big as Da'Tara wins and Robert Dutrow eats crow

For those of you that like to see arrogant people get theirs, then you love today. I count myself in that crowd as the 38-1 long shot, Da'Tara won the Belmont stakes by 5-1/4 lenghths, while Big Brown did not even place despite his trainer Robert Dutrow calling it a "forgone conclusion" that Big Brown would win.

Still, I do feel bad for Big Brown.
Having visited a race-horse farm, I've seen that the horses definitely have unique personalities and love to compete more than anything else in their lives. Believe it or not, Big Brown was disappointed that he could not leave it all on the track, even if a camera can't capture that.

Blame it on the quarter crack in Big Brown's foot or don't, but know that a strong wind blew Rick Dutrow's arrogance back in his face. Dutrow's horse that beat Da'Tara by 23 lengths in the Florida Derby, was nowhere to be found. Dutrow was so cocky that he thought his horse could miss three days of practice.

Dutrow has been brash. He has treated others in and out of the ranks with distain and he gained many enemies. He called Big Brown's win even though the horse had never raced that far. It's about like an track-star who specializes in the 800m calling a win in the 1600m; as they are quite different races.

So far I know of no media member has had the you know what to call him on his failed called win in an interview. But Dutrow is eating crow. Next time someone calls something and can't deliver (Ironic that Big Brown did not deliver), we'll just say 'he's eating Dutrow crow.'
