A Manager is Not Exactly a Soccer Coach
Although it is always tempting to use sport as a coach for an example of a manager role, but be aware that once the manager is not a coach.
The main differences lie in three areas: career, team and culture.
The career of a professional sport is hardly compare with that of a professional company. They often compare them, and metaphors of the mountaineering expedition may help to show some similarities, but both careers are two different things.
A professional career is focused on providing a production solution in an enterprise. Some careers have a characteristic independent or autonomous, but most are done within a team and organization development. The diversity of a professional career - whatever area of expertise - demands a comprehensive approach to managing different. This becomes visible in the indicator of individual performance. The Sportsman main performance indicator is due to the partition of the team and its stake in this (which gives the right pass, scoring, defense, etc. ..) The indicator of personal performance of a professional is primarily determined by the business environment of the expert working in.
The role of the coach to the manager or the other team is also different. The coach has a professional (career) background in sport, but it is not really in the game. The manager of the other. In fact, its position can be better compared to that of the "runner" in a game of volleyball is somehow orchestrating the game, the manager is a composer too in delegating tasks to team members.
The characteristics of a team in one sport and one from the other side in business is not the same thing. A team or other sport requires such professionals. In business, however, a sales team steam production, or one focused on training and education in human resources, a similar distance. In this sense, in some cases it is possible for a manager to resemble that of a coach (eg in a sales environment where close to scoring is similar to score a goal), but in others is not the environment, in education where a coach is to present a course. Manage a group of trainers is not the same as managing a sport Steam players.
That corporate culture. This is the last part where the sports and business have their own unique characteristics. The culture of football is an international culture, where players are transferred to the teams. Basketball is different than football, but both have a similar culture. Whether the Lakers can have a unique style to another club.
In business, however, there are so many cultural differences, but they are more complex than in an organization, there are teams who play soccer, basketball and handball as if it was the game company. It is much more complex than the culture of a sports club.
